I buy, Therefore I am

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

Consumerism is personification of greed and people don’t realise that one can die from greed just as one can die from nationalism. It drives a person to work too hard, to desire money and consume. One is conditioned to think that without consumer goods, one is nobody. ‘I buy, therefor I am’ is the slogan of the modern age.

We must understand consumerism as a new demonic religion and find a spiritual alternative’ Dalai LamaLiving in the south west of Australia in the country town (for now) that it is, has taught me to be resourceful, creative and to think outside the square. I’ve felt very lucky to feel ‘at home’ and like I ‘fit in’ as this place seems to attract like minded people as far as environmental factors and our love for the health of this planet. I don’t choose people to be in my life based on what they own or how much Botox they’ve had pumped into their face. If they are good to me and make me feel good about me then that’s enough for me. I used to think that if my kids were dressed perfectly in brand new clothes, if I drove a nice car and if I was groomed head to toe once a month at the salon, this would make me a good person. Boy was I wrong! Now that I don’t place as much importance into these things, I find items that no longer fit my kids and handing them down to friends (instead of just dumping them at vinnies) I find myself at random dropping soup off to my girlfriends. Because what you give out, will always come back. It ALWAYS comes back to love peeps, that beautiful centre of our bodies that feels best when we are giving, NOT taking.
